Biography
A diminutive opening batter, Innocent Kaia may be a bit late to the party but he has been putting on noteworthy performances even since he made his ODI debut in 2022. He was stuck in domestic cricket obscurity for the bulk of his twenties, and got a call-up in Internationals for the first time in 2021 for a T20 series against Scotland, as a 29-year-old.
Kaia made his ODI debut a year later against Afghanistan, and in the very next series against Bangladesh scored a match-winning century as Zimbabwe chased down a target in excess of 300. That win was part of a memorable series triumph for Zimbabwe over Bangladesh, the ripples of which caused the latter team to change their coach and captain. Kaia became a three format player in February 2023, as he was handed a Test debut for the home series against West Indies.
