Biography

A developing fast bowler who made his First-class debut at the age of 19 in 2016, Richardson's claim to fame was his successful outing in the BBL that season. He was consistently among the wickets and capped it off with a Man of the Match performance in the final to help Perth Scorchers clinch the title. His exploits earned him a national call-up for the T20I series at home Sri Lanka as the selectors named a very inexperienced squad due to the fact that the big boys were preparing for the tour of India.

Richardson featured in two T20Is and didn't do anything of note. He had played just a solitary First-class game at the time of his international debut and is still very raw in his career. Since then, he has played a few more Sheffield Shield games and has been among the wickets. Richardson started the 2017-18 season nicely and followed it up with an impressive BBL season which saw him get a call up for the ODI series against England at home. He was handed a debut and looked fairly impressive, working up a good pace and hitting the bat hard.

For a lot of people including the national selectors, Richardson's improvement has been drastic. That has seen him get his first ever Test call up, via the selection for the tour to South Africa. Realistically speaking, he is still a work in progress but definitely has the talent and importantly, manages to keep his cool in crunch situations. If nurtured well, he could be another of Australia's fast bowling assets.
