Biography
A tearaway quick, who often sets the speed gun on fire, Miguel Cummins hit the headlines when his 5/30 wiped out T&T for 110 in the 2012 Regional Four-Day competition. And as if to prove that it was no flash in the pan, Cummins collected a four-wicket haul in the second essay, bowling Barbados to a massive triumph in the final. He extended the fine form by breaking into the Windies A team. Cummins also plied his trade for Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the opening season of the CPL.
Having just played a handful of first-class matches, Cummins was fast tracked to the senior team for the one-off ODI against Ireland at home. He was a bit here and there in his debut match, picking figures of 1/42 in the 6 overs he bowled.
After proving his consistency in the domestic circuit during the 2016 season, a Test cricket baptism beckoned Cummins and on 30 July 2016, the Barbadian received his Test cap during the second Test against India in Kingston, Jamaica. He picked a five-wicket haul in only his second Test, rattling India with 6/48 albeit in a losing cause.
Despite that, Cummins, with all the raw pace he has to trouble the batsmen, struggled with consistency and his inability to pick wickets consistently eventually plugged him back in the pecking order. He continues to be a part of the ODI and Test squads, but hasn't quite cemented his spot in both the formats. If Cummins can blend pace with control, he will turn out to be the strike bowler Windies have been craving for beside Shannon Gabriel.
Cummins played for Worcestershire in the latter half of the 2016 season and collected 15 wickets at an average of 25, that included stunning figures of 12/166 against Essex.
