Biography

Passionate cricket lovers would remember the mauling Andre Fletcher dished out to Brett Lee in the company of Chris Gayle at the Oval in the 2nd T20 World Cup. That Chris Gayle is an explosive batsman is well known and true to his reputation, Lee was whacked out of the stadium twice. But the a pull shot by his young partner was what caught the eye of the viewer. The nonchalance and lack of fear and respect for a bowler of Lee's stature and pace was really impressive. West Indies went on to win the match on the back of a strong first wicket stand and it can be safely said the Fletcher's popularity stakes grew.

An opening batsman with a solid technique, Fletcher is one of the few cricketers to come from the Island nation of Grenada. Possessing an extra ability to keep wickets, he was thrown into the West Indies squad without much first class experience. As is the case with such talented youngsters, he impressed in the initial few essays, one being the above mentioned knock against Australia in the T20 world cup, but flattered to deceive later. He earned his million participating in the Stanford T20 series, but currently finds himself out of favour from the West Indies selectors. A powerhouse of talent, he is one player to watch out in the future.

Fletcher ran rampant in the inaugural edition of the CPL, slamming 238 runs in 7 innings, finishing the preliminary round as the leading run-getter. He was called back into the West Indies T20I team after a near three year hiatus for the away series against New Zealand. He made some substantial contributions, which were enough to keep him on the international radar despite the towering presence of Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith.
