Biography
A product of the supply chain that Nondescript Cricket Club is for Sri Lanka, Sandun Weerakkody is one of the many batsman cum wicket-kepper combos going around the domestic scene. He comes across as a hard hitting top-order batsman who made his way up through the under-19 ranks. After a couple of years of consistent run-scoring and the reputation he had built for himself, his big ticket came in early 2017.
Selected on the fateful ODI tour of South Africa, one where Sri Lanka was whitewashed, he got his maiden ODI cap at Port Elizabeth to open the innings. It was his second match though, where he dropped down to the middle order where he gained recognition with a useful half-century. Despite not quite being a regular in the side as yet, with age and talent on his side, he remains one for the future.
