Biography
Born on April 30, 1991, Danny Briggs is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler and a right-handed batsman. He made his first-class debut with Hampshire in 2009 and two years later, at the age of 20, he went onto become the youngest English spinner to pick up 100 wickets in first-class cricket.
Danny Briggs first caught the headlines by becoming the leading wicket-taker during his country’s Under-19 tour of Bangladesh in 2009.
The first step towards making it into the national side for an English cricketer is getting an entry into the England Lions squad and Briggs achieved that in 2011 when they got an invitation to tour the Caribbean to play 4-day matches and he ended up picking 33 wickets at an average of 18.87.
One of his most notable performances came against Kent playing for Hampshire when he picked up 4/93 in the second innings to dramatically give his side a last minute win, which also helped them secure their place in Division One of the County Championship for 2011.
His ODI debut came on February 21, 2012 against Pakistan in Dubai. He bowled very well to pick up two wickets conceding just 39 runs, the best economy for his side, in his 10 overs. Eventually, England went onto win the game by 4 wickets. Unfortunately, this also happens to be his only ODI.
Danny Briggs was so committed to the game of cricket that he decided to postpone his wedding as it was clashing with the 2012 World T20 in Sri Lanka. He made his T20 debut on September 12 against the visiting Proteas. He played only one game in the World T20 and then played a game against India at Pune.
Briggs is a regular member for Hampshire in the English county, but has not done that well to cement a place in the national side.
Being part of England's T20 side, Briggs plays the occasional game and has played Australia thrice since 2013. However, the selectors ignored him for the World T20 in Bangladesh.
