Biography

A qualified teacher from Cardiff University. Alex Thomas Thomson, put his career on hold after being rewarded a contract with Warwickshire. The contract, though, didn't come easy. He had to work hard and prove his all-round skills while at college before attracting some big names (Ashley Giles) at the club.

A middle-order batsman and an off-break bowler, Thomson played for Cardiff MCCU and also captained the club at a very young age. His demeanour towards the game backed by excellent all-round skills helped him shine among others during his playing days at Unicorns, Leek CC and Cardiff MCCU. He made his First-Class debut in 2014, and later became a regular feature of the Warwickshire second eleven side. By the end of 2017 Championship season, Thomson had played just six First-Class games and failed to make any note-worthy impression in all three departments of the game.

\"Alex is a promising, young cricketer who came to our attention through our close partnership with Staffordshire Cricket. He boasts captaincy experience with both Cardiff MCCU and his club team and has fitted very well into the dressing room. As an off-spinner and middle-order batsman, he gives us new options,\" Warwickshire's sport director, Ashley Giles, reasoned out in an interview with the BBC Sport before signing him on a one-year contract in November 2017.
