A left-handed wicket keeper batsman, Vasconcelos debuted for Boland in 2016 and racked up two tons and four fifties in the 11 games that he played over two seasons at the Club in the Sunfoil 3-day cup. But after that a Portuguese passport holder, Ricardo got a call from Northants ahead of the start of the 2018 season and the passport helped him ink the deal as a local player and not a foreign recruit.
Having been considered for CSA invitational team in late 2017 against the Zimbabweans, Ricardo's style of play has been compared with that of SA's incumbent keeper batsman - Quinton De Kock. Northamptonshire's David Murphy, their regular keeper, retired at the end of the 2017 season and that meant the club was eager to sign a keeper batsman and they zeroed in on Ricardo.
