LSG's bowling lineup before their first game with Avesh, Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav out looked so weak on paper that they were considered cannon-fodder for the batters. But four games in, they have beaten SRH and MI and lost a close game to DC. And Avesh and Akash Deep are back as well. The real pluses though for them have been Shardul and Rathi who both have been superb so far. That brings an end to proceedings for tonight. Tomorow is Saturday - which only means one thing - double-header time. We will be there for all of that jazz. Till then sleep tight and snore well. See you tomorrow. Bye.
Digvesh Rathi | Player of the Match (translated from Hindi by Pant): I'm really enjoying it. I like to get batters out. I watched Sunil Narine bowl and from that time I took to bowling. I want to make my mindset more attacking, want to be like Narine, on how he stays calm even during pressure situations. (on the Dhir wicket) Before that over, I spoke to you (Pant), we wanted a mid-wicket. But we did not have one, he looked to play through there and that move really worked for us.
Rishabh Pant: One thing is sure is that the wicket is playing really well and we need to figure out what's working for us and what is not. Very simple. Before we wanted a different kind of wicket, but whatever was offered to us we will take it and play. When a player like Mitch Marsh gives us a start like that, it gives time to the middle-order. That's the idea, we want to play according to the situation, the kind of start we got it put us in a good state. Mentally it was tough for all of us, they were not losing too many wickets, kudos to them, but we held our nerve and finished it off. (on Shardul) He is amazing for us, now I can say that he has been an amazing pick. We need to back him. (on Rathi) He is one of our leading bowlers, the way he his holding his nerve and good to see a youngster perform like that.
Stats by Shashikant Singh
Retired out in the IPL
R Ashwin vs LSG, Wankhede, 2022
Atharva Taide vs DC, Dharamshala, 2023
Sai Sudharsan vs MI, Ahmedabad, 2023
Tilak Varma vs LSG, Lucknow, 2025*
- LSG have won 6 out of 7 matches against the Mumbai Indians, including three wins at Ekana. MI’s only win came in the 2023 Eliminator at Chepauk.
- 394 runs today is the second-highest match aggregate in 46 T20 matches at this venue, after 395 runs between LSG and RR last year.
Shardul Thakur: There is always pressure when you are bowling the penultimate or the last over, Avesh did a great job as well. But at the end of the day you're paid to do that job. It was a tricky surface, sometimes you thought the slower ones would work but even a few slower ones were hit for boundaries, in the end it was the yorkers that worked. We do see what happened in the first half, but we have seen in the IPL that the pitch changes in the second half and becomes better, it is about adjusting to the conditions. He (Rathi) is a phenomenal bowler and a character as well, we need such guys in the team - who comes in and delivers for the team and he has been a bit of a surprise in the IPL. I feel the bounce is even on the red soil and the ball comes on nicely but you need more skills as a batter on black soil when there's no dew.
Hardik Pandya: It has been disappointing when you lose. If we have to be honest, on the field, we gave away 10-15 runs on that wicket. I have always enjoyed my bowling. I don't think I have many options. I try to read the wicket and try some smart options. I dont try to go for wickets. I try to bowl dot balls and let the batters take risks. I think as a batting unit, we fell short. We win as a team. We lose as a team. Don't want to point someone out. The ownership has to be taken by the whole batting unit. I take full ownership. It was obvious. We needed some hits. In cricket, some of those days come. When you try but it doesn't come off. Just play good cricket. I like to keep it simple. Take better calls. Be smart in bowling. Take chances in batting. Play simple cricket with some aggression. As it is a long tournament, couple of wins and we might get into the rhythm.
Justin Langer - LSG's head coach hugs the curator and pats him, then goes to a few groundstaff to offer his hand.
Pant is more relieved than anything. He hugs his team-mates and manages to smile. Sanjiv Goenka comes down to shake hands with him and Pant manages to offer a big smile to Goenka.
23:24 Local Time, 17:54 GMT, 23:24 IST: Hardik Pandya manages a tame smile as he shakes hands with his opponents.

Avesh Khan to Santner, no run
13 off 1. Sanjiv Goenka is all smiles as he claps watching on. Akash Ambani meanwhile is in an animated chat with someone. He is not happy. Still Avesh Khan wants the field to be right.
