Kieron Pollard - It was a nice toss to lose, bowling in this heat. The bowlers came up well and managed to stay with their plans. We've made a few additions to the team, everyone understands their responsibility as well. To be able to call up one of the senior bowlers around in the circuit, credit to the management for picking him up. We all know how dangerous he can be, on his day he can win a match by himself and he's someone capable of finding the boundaries. Nice to have started with a win and looking forward to the next match which is coming up shortly.
Heinrich Klaasen - It's always good, I enjoyed the challenge, the boys did put up a good fight. The wicket was slow, we lost the game by not getting a big score, can't win games with 108 on the board. I thought the bowlers executed the plans well, but we fell short with the bat, they bowled really well. Everyone has mixed up nicely, looking forward to a good game in the next match.
Nic Pooran | Player of the Match - It's nice to start with a win, the key is to get off to a good start. We had a wonderful powerplay, Rashid then came and did his job, it was important that everyone came up and contributed to the win. I wanted to recognise the state of the game, understand the match-ups and the condition of the wicket. I just played according to the merit of the ball.
Trent Boult: Got the job done, I think the boys performed nicely today. Quick turnaround and we look forward to tomorrow. It's a new year, it's a new competition but it's a ground we are familiar with. Collectively as a group, we put some good pressure on and when you take wickets throughout the 20 overs and restrict them to a decent score, it's always satisfying. Nice to go with the bat, finish by the skipper, nice to get a couple of points. (On Pooran) He's a legend, he hits boundaries, he hits sixes, adapts to conditions very nicely and that's one of the reasons why he's one of the best players in the world. (On the track) Little bit of bounce but familiar conditions, very similar to last year and I thought the boys put the ball in the areas we wanted to.
18:48 Local Time, 22:48 GMT, 04:18 IST: A comfortable win in the end for the defending champions. It was set-up by the bowlers as they restricted the Orcas to a mere 108. Cameron Gannon gave them some hope with a two-wicket over in the 2nd, but he was then taken apart by NIc Pooran, who smashed his way to a 37-ball 62*. The bowlers punched above their weight, but they were never going to defend this paltry score. MI New York have started their campaign with a win, the Orcas will believe that today was just an off-day for them with the bat. Back for the presentations soon..
