Meredith to Warner, 1 run, oh under edge rolls past the stumps. Bit of away swing on this good length delivery, Warner looks to run it towards third man, chops it to short fine leg

Pitch report: “The atmosphere is electric. The surface is extremely dry and hard. You know there won’t be a lot of seam or swing movement early on. Not a great covering of grass, patchy in places so it might spin later and the slower bowlers will come in. They’ll have to protect one side of the ground with the breeze blowing in that direction” says Brad Hodge.

Hobart Hurricanes have won the toss and have opted to field
The Thunder, meanwhile, have had a topsy-turvy run and have stuck together through circumstances that might’ve seen lesser sides fall apart. With Warner at the helm, following the reversal of his leadership ban, it’s the Thunder’s grit and resilience that’s stood apart. They started with 4 wins from their first 5 games but kept losing key players throughout to injury and national duty. Perhaps no blow was more detrimental when two key players in Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft were ruled out after a horrific collision in their 5th game. That’s when the Thunder lost their way a little as they suffered two losses and abandonment before they turned things around with a win against the Scorchers. With their last league game against the Sixers also washed out, the Thunder finished third and churned out two inspiring performances in the Knockout and Challenger to end up in the final. A win tonight will not only mark Warner’s triumphant return to leadership but will also be a testament to the remarkable belief he’s instilled in this side.
18:00 Local Time, 07:00 GMT, 12:30 IST: It’s going to be a fairy-tale finish irrespective of which team’s crowned champions of BBL 14 tonight. The Hobart Hurricanes, who’ve never won the title before, have their best shot yet and it’s going to be in front of their home fans at the Bellerive Oval. Like a romping juggernaut, the Hurricanes marched into the playoffs after remaining undefeated in 8 games following a loss to the Renegades in their opening encounter. Their only other loss of the season came against the Stars in their last league game. While Mitch Owen’s fireworks at the top of the order have got them off to rollicking starts, Tim David’s power-surge pyrotechnics have given their scores a middle-overs makeover. A sprinkling of Nikhil Chaudhary’s sensibility and Chris Jordan’s death-overs destruction have meant that the Hurricanes have been formidable with the bat. Cast into leading the side, a job few fast bowlers are bestowed with, Ellis has done his part too. After a disastrous start to the season, the team pulled itself together under his leadership. With ball in hand, Meredith has set the tone with his pace in the powerplay while Ellis and Jordan have lived up to their reputation of being excellent death-bowlers. Overall, the Hurricanes have been the team to beat.
