Southee with his daughter in his arms is leading NZ into the middle for the anthems. She seems to be in tears.
Legends are not defined by their success but by the impact they have on the lives of others. Southee has had a huge impact on the Kiwis and their cricket. His perseverance at home and on away decks with the new and old ball has many episodes well documented. It is an emotional moment for him and the Kiwis. To sustain longevity, you have to evolve and he has kept doing so for the last decade and a half.
Pitch Report: The wicket is a little greenish and brownish at the same time. Spinners will come into play later in the game. The overcast conditions now will help the seamers.
Tim Southee: A moment in time you hope it never comes. I think it is the right time. The depth there is outstanding. Has been a great ride. Hopefully one great last week. The series hasn't gone to plan. Hopefully, we can put it in a good performance this week. Have been living here. Special place. You want to win every game you play. Has been a big Test year for us. Test cricket has been special for me. To play more than 100 Tests is his special. The team mates and the friendships you form. I will take back many good memories. I have always enjoyed watching the game. Would love watching this group as a fan.
Time Southee has decided to call it quits in Tests. This is his final and 107th Test and that too at his home ground. What a phenomenal career he has had. Very underrated throughout his career I feel. His massive sixes down the order will be missed as well. He debuted against England 16 years back and would be bidding bye bye against the same opponents.

Ben Stokes: We will have a bowl. It is a little overcast. We would have been happy either ways. We have played some very good cricket. We know they won't give up.
Tom Latham: Looks a decent surface. We have seen more surfaces greener than this. We know we haven't been at our best. Would be a good chance for us to send Tim on a high. He has played a lot of cricket here.
England have won the toss and have opted to field
10:00 Local Time, 21:00 GMT, 02:30 IST: Life is full of Topsy turvy rides. Does anyone know it better than the NZ team? They whitewashed India in India. A feat which has remained unthinkable for decades now. And now the Kiwis find themselves on the verge of being whitewashed and that too at home. The Kiwis have made their home their fortress in Tests but England did really well to breach and they did so with a lot of elan. The wins in the previous two games were huge and that would have kept Emgland in good stead for this game. NZ had rekindled their chances of a top two spot for the WTC but these losses and an over-rate penalty have heavily dented their chances.
