It has gotten quite overcast out there as the players walk out. They've all got their sweaters on too
Pitch report | Katey Martin and Shane Bond: There's a strong breeze coming in from the north-west and it can go up to 90kph. The pace and bounce on this wicket stands out, can see some divots. Still a pretty good wicket to bat on. Bowling with the wind is the biggest challenge today. Need to keep your action strong and run in.
10:30am local, Day 3: To say that England have bossed this game would be an understatement. With a 533-run lead already, England easily have enough on the board but there's so much time left that they can allow themselves some more batting indulgence this morning and all signs point to them wanting to do so. There was little respite from the torment for New Zealand yesterday, even as they played with a lot of heart, the rewards were few and far in between. They've got to stick it out though and see what they can now salvage from this game.
Gus Atkinson: It (our plans) worked out well in the morning and the batters batted pretty well. Never thought of getting a hat-trick, but it was nice to get it. We wanted to set them with the shorter balls than go to the yorker. Yesterday I didn't feel great, but I felt nice today (found my rhythm.) Not really sure what the plans are. We'll see tomorrow and assess the conditions. We'll stick to the usual plans and try to challenge the batters.
18:30 Local Time, 05:30 GMT, 11:00 IST: England have taken giant strides in this Test as the lead has now stretched to 533 and the visitors still haven't declared. The England bowlers didn't waste any time in the morning session as they took the remaining five wickets and wiped off the tail pretty quickly. Atkinson bagged a hat-trick as New Zealand were bundled out for a paltry total of 125. Carse and Atkinson were the chief destroyers as they took four wickets each to give England a massive lead of 155 runs. As expected, the England batters came out all guns blazing and attacked the Kiwi bowlers to all parks of the park. Matt Henry dismissed Crawley for the fourth time in the series, however, that hardly made any difference as the other England batters made significant contributions. Duckett and Bethell who played excellent knocks were unfortunately dismissed in their 90s, Brook scored another brisk fifty and Joe Root has played an equally pivotal knock. Ben Stokes played a cameo towards the closing stages of the day and although they haven't declared despite such a massive lead, you can expect England to declare overnight. The pitch has definitely flattened out and conditions have become easier for batting, but chasing such a gargantuan target is always going to be a mountain to climb, irrespective of the conditions. We'll be back tomorrow with the live coverage of day 3, do join us.
