Pitch Report - Another pleasant day in Christchurch with a light wind blowing across. Day 1 had everything, was a good cricket pitch. England got their length right, this looks like a good surface with the green tinge having gone off. It now looks like a good batting surface
10:40 Local Time, 21:40 GMT, 03:10 IST: England opted to bowl first after winning the toss and soon realised that the green tinge didn't mean it was a bowling paradise at the Hagley Oval. The hosts did lose Devon Conway cheaply, but Tom Latham was positive and the rest played around Land Williamson's 93, the highest score of the innings. Small but useful partnerships right through blunted the visiting bowling attack and it set-up Glenn Phillips to play his shots and get New Zealand past 300. They've two wickets the bank and will look to add a few more runs this morning. For England, it will be all about taking the last two wickets cheaply and setting up their own batting.
Kane Williamson - It was challenging, we had to work hard, some good partnerships, but the wicket was pretty good. I was just trying to adjust as to where to run (on being asked about the slippery surface), we applied ourselves well, pretty balanced day with both teams getting some rewards. An interesting day's play overall. From our perspective, we were pleased with partnerships throughout, the ball was doing a bit and we felt we got some rewards towards the end of the day. The ball was doing a bit throughout, there was some sideways movement and bounce, (Brydon) Carse extracted it well, with the wind he made the ball do a bit. Was nervous (on his comeback), watched the series and the team did amazingly well there in India, it was a great achievement (to win 3-0)
