Pitch Report | Frankie Mckay and Shane Bond: "There's excitement all round. A couple of debutants, a full house here at the Hagley and a gorgeous summer's day to kick the season off. It'a already over the 20-degree mark, it's looking likely to get up to 26-27 degrees. Just a light breeze at the moment and the North-West is expected to pick up. It could really dry the surface up. It looks like a typical Hagley. I would love to bowl on this.
Jacob Bethell: Feeling very good, New Zealand is a lovely country. Test cricket has been my dream. To finally be a part of it is something special. If you asked me a year ago would I be making my debut in exactly a year's time, I would have said no. But it's been a good year. and thankfully it has paid off with a Test cap. (On batting at three) I am excited, I have been asking to bat up the order for about three years now. Never done it for County cricket, finally getting a chance to do it for England. The feeling is just excitement, I know I can do it. I batted in the top-three growing up until I actually made my first-class debut. To do it for England is pretty special.
Nathan Smith: Very excited, I have played a lot of cricket here. awesome ground to play at. It's a classic New Zealand ground, beautiful banks, the crowd get behind you as well, we'll have the noise of Barmy Army as well. The boys are rolling nicely, good to come and join them, hopefully we can continue that form and the crowd get behind us.
