10:30 Local Time, 09:30 GMT, 15:00 IST: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Day 3 of the England - Sri Lanka Test match. Sri Lanka got bowled out on the first day, while England lost six wickets despite the first session getting washed out on the second day. Jamie Smith is looking in good touch and he has a chance to notch up a century and extend England’s lead further. The weather conditions in Manchester are much better today, so there won’t be any interruptions most likely. Asitha Fernando has picked up three wickets so far and he has a good chance to bag a five-wicket haul. What do we have in store for us today? We shall find out soon, stay around as start of play is not far away.
18:30 Local Time, 17:30 GMT, 23:00 IST: That shall be Stumps on Day 2. Despite the first session getting washed out due to rain, we have had a good amount of cricket in Manchester today. The Sri Lankan pacers, particularly Asitha Fernando took some early wickets in the form of Duckett and Pope, but the England batters fought back later. Lawrence got off to a decent start, but Vishwa Fernando changed ends and came back to dismiss the set batsman. England were in a spot of bother having lost their top three batters without contributing much, but Joe Root and Harry Brook played some classy shots to rebuild England's innings. Root was dismissed by Asitha Fernando later, but Harry Brook played a fine knock by notching up a pivotal fifty. Jamie Smith proved his mettle by notching up a fifty and as a result of his innings, England managed to gain a slender lead by the end of the day's play. Chris Woakes too made his presence felt with a handy contribution, but he was dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya towards the end of the day. It started to drizzle and the conditions deteriorated thereafter, hence bad light stopped play, but we got to witness some interesting cricket. At the moment, England are slightly ahead in the game with a handy lead, but will they be able to extend that lead further? We'll be back tomorrow for the action of Day 3 to find it out. The weather forecast for tomorrow looks much better, so do join us for all the action.. For now, it's a goodbye from our side.
18:16 Local Time, 17:16 GMT, 22:46 IST: There's not much rain around but the light conditions aren't great either. Stay around for further updates..
Umpires having a check on the light meter and they reckon Sri Lanka can't continue with pace anymore.. It has also started to drizzle and the players are walking off the field.. The groundstaff quickly bring on the hover cover as well. With the light fading and rain around, that was a wise call..
