Complete England won by an innings and 114 runs

Ali Martin penned this down for The Guardian - "But 21 years since one shy, undemonstrative fast bowler announced himself to the world with a place on the Lord’s honours board, another cut from the same cloth repeated the trick. Atkinson, a smidgeon older than that early days Anderson at 26, claimed the third‑best figures by an England men’s Test debutant – seven for 45 from 12 overs – with the slippery wicket-to-wicket nip that trumped just 19 first-class games for Surrey."
BBC Sport carries the headline - Atkinson makes speedy claim to be England's future. Stephan Shemilt goes on to opine, "For all of the attention and emotion generated by James Anderson’s final appearance in Test cricket, it was Atkinson who eased into the slipstream and hinted at England’s tomorrow."
Here are a few snippets from some of the English media after Day 1
This is how he described his feeling after the day's play yesterday. “I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. I was looking up at the (Honours) board seeing my figures and just thinking, ‘Wow.’ A very special day. I was a bit nervous this morning. I woke up and all I could think about was the day ahead. I was a bit emotional this morning and then having my family there for my cap presentation – if you could have asked me what I wanted from my day that was pretty close to the top. It was pretty cool. Just to take a five-for is amazing, more than I could have dreamed of.
The hosts are well ahead in the game and look all set to give a grand farewell to James Anderson, who is playing his last international game. Debutant Gus Atkinson stole most of the limelight though. He blew away West Indies for a 7-fer and he his name up on the Lord's Honours Board in his very first outing.
Day 2: Welcome back to Test cricket and we are greeted with clear blue skies and bright sunshine. Lord's will sport a red look today in support of the Ruth Strauss Foundation, which aims to raise awareness of the need for more research & collaboration in the fight against non-smoking lung cancers and also provide emotional support to families. The England team will wear special red caps to support the cause.
England already lead by 68 and would be looking to bat only once on this. Hard work ahead of West Indies as we head into day 2. They will need all the spirit and resolve they showed in Australia to make a comeback into this game. That's it for day 1. We will be there 30 minutes before day 2's play starts. Till then take care and be well. See you tomorrow. Bye.
18:55 Local Time, 17:55 GMT, 23:25 IST: England's day through and through. Under overcast skies they sent West Indies in and the debutant Gus Atkinson had a dream debut scalping 7 for 45 to send the visitors packing for 121. West Indies started off well with the debutant Mikyle Louis impressing with his technique but that all changed as Atkinson produced a dream spell. After lunch he took 3 wickets in one over and West Indies never recovered from that. The conditions were helpful for the seamers throughout when England bowled but West Indies played some poor shots and their inexperience showed. Alzarri tried to take on the bowling but after four boundaries in one Atkinson over he fell. That was the end of the fun. England came out and Crawley played his shots and after Duckett fell early, the Pope-Crawley stand stabilised the innings before West Indies got them both before stumps.
