What can we say about the Netherlands! They didn't play a single international game after the World Cup Qualifier. Their coach, Ryan Cook, called out to any team who were willing to play them in the sub-continent so their players can get accustomed to the conditions. Both their warm up games were washed out. They were beaten by Pakistan and New Zealand in the first two games. But they didn't lose hope and managed to pull off one of the biggest World Cup upsets when they beat South Africa. Skipper Edwards led from the front with the bat while the bowlers did a fantastic job of defending 243. If the batters especially the top order start to contribute more then there might be few more of those upsets.
Sri Lanka were handed a blow even before the World Cup started when two of their main bowlers - Hasaranga and Chameera - were ruled out. It has become evident that the duo are a big miss as they're losing games even after scoring 300+. Regular skipper Shanaka is also sidelined after suffering an injury in the second game against Pakistan. Kusal Mendis, their best batter, has taken over the reins and now has the added pressure of leading from the front. The batting, apart from the collapse against Australia, has done fairly well but it is their inexperienced bowling attack that has been found out. Madushanka has been a revelation but has got very little support from the others. Sri Lanka have never lost to Netherlands and they would hope that record stays intact whilst also getting their campaign kick-started.
